How to Obtain a Driving Licence
The Driving License service come under the Commerce and Transport Department, Government of Sikkim and the Transport Commissioner, Government of Sikkim.
Eligibility criteria to get the driving license:
One should be at least 18 years of age to apply for driving license.
To get learner’s license, an 18 years old applicant should apply for the vehicle with gear.
Similarly to get learner’s license a 16 years old applicant should apply for the vehicle without gear.
A person should be more than 20 years of age to apply for driving a transport vehicle.
An applicant is issued learner’s license/driving license, based on the type of vehicle applied in his/her application.
Applicant should be conversant with traffic rules/regulations to apply for driving license.
Concerned Authority:
Regional Transport Officers present in Regional Transport offices of the districts.
Licensing authority of the concerned district.
Procedure:
The applicant should apply first for the learner’s license.
The application form for learner’s license is also available at the concerned RTO (Regional Transport Office) during office hours.
The learner’s license is issued for six month only.
The applicant is required to pass his/her driving test within six months to apply for permanent driving license.
Driving test (compulsory):
Every applicant shall have to pass a driving test / physical competence test to be conducted by the licensing authority on a vehicle of the type he/she has applied for. After passing the driving test, the applicant applies for a driving license
Documents to be attached with the application form for driving license:
Original Learners license.
Residential certificate/ any other official documents having the proof of residence.
Age proof along with 2 latest passport size photographs.
Blood group & health certificate.
Fees for obtaining the driving license (Both for 2/4 wheelers):
To avail the learner’s license the fees Rs.52.00 is to be deposited with the form.
To avail the final Driving License, the fee Rs.274.00 is to be deposited with the form
When you will get the certificate or license:
After successful passing the test, the applicant receives the permanent driving license in around 15 days of the driving test.
Some important facts related to Driving License:
According to the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads.
Driving License is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Motor Vehicles Inspector’s Office after the recipient has passed a driving test and has a proof of the required age.
Learner’s License is issued after passing a theory test.
The legislation of Driving License is done through the ’Rules of the Road Regulation’ and the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
The driver of the vehicle is required to keep the original copy of the license while driving.
Applying for renewal:
Before one month of completion of license the person must have to apply for renewal to the license authority of the district. The following documents should be attached while applying for renewal
RC book (Certificate of registration)
Original Driving license.
For those who have driving license issued from other State expires and need to renew it in Odisha, the following documents would be required
RC book (Certificate of registration)
Original Driving license.
Motor vehicle insurance.
